Massage Therapies

Swedish Massage. The term Swedish massage refers to a variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles by applying pressure to them, and rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart. The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles. Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes. It increases circulation, stretches the ligaments and tendons (keeping them supple and pliable), stimulates the skin and nervous system, reduces stress (both emotional and physical) and is suggested in a regular program for stress management and relaxation.

Intuitive Massage is a form of massage that allows the therapist to follow their intuition, as to where the clients mind, body and spirit need to be harmonized and balanced. The therapist may integrate a variety of modalities that create the greatest avenue of healing. Essentially, allowing the spirit to lead and the body and soul to follow.

Relaxation Massage  is set apart as a unique style because it reflects an attitude about touching, caring, energy awareness and emotional, spiritual healing besides the physical manipulation. Relaxation Massage is signified by long flowing strokes and often one stroke goes all the way from the head to the toes giving the body a deeper sense of relaxation and peacefulness. Getting in touch with one's own body leads to a more effective way of loving and relating to others, and that healing comes from within as well as from outside.

Shamanistic Massage. This massage integrates essential oils, crystals, feathers, drums, rattles - any tool that can connect with mother earth and the elements of air, fire, earth and water to bring about healing in a very nurturing and loving way.  The therapist may journey to connect the client with their guides, angels and power animals for healing, insights and direction for their body, mind and spirit.

Accupressure Massage. This massage integrates acupressure point therapy in helping stimulate, sedate and balance the points along the meridian channels of the body. This healing combination of massage and acupressure aids the body in reducing inflammation, pain and helps restore the bodies natural abilities to heal itself.

Increase the Benefits with Frequent Visits

Here’s the beauty of bodywork: its benefits are compounded when massage is utilized as a frequent therapy. The more you get, the more it does. Taking part in this form of regularly-scheduled self-care can play a huge part in how healthy you’ll be and how youthful you’ll remain with each passing year.

Budgeting time and money for bodywork at consistent intervals is truly an investment in your health. And remember: just because massage feels like a pampering treat doesn’t mean it is any less therapeutic.

Consider massage appointments a necessary piece of your health and wellness plan, and work with your practitioner to establish a treatment schedule that best meets your needs.

Profound Effects

In response to massage, specific physiological and chemical changes cascade throughout the body, with profound effects. Research shows that with massage:

  • Asthmatic children show better pulmonary function and increased peak air flow.
  • Burn injury patients report reduced pain, itching, and anxiety.
  • High blood pressure patients demonstrate lower diastolic blood pressure, anxiety, and stress hormones.
  • Premenstrual syndrome sufferers have decreased water retention and cramping.
  • Preterm infants have improved weight gain.
